Last year I took part in a month long residency in Argentina resulting in an exhibition in a city centre gallery, called the Femur Gallery in Buenos Aires. It was a great experience – one I am about to repeat in October ‘26 I’ll keep the story going on instagram.
The title of the communal show is decided as the work progresses in conjunction with the curator, this is both an exciting and a very immediate and reactive mode of working. The exposition will take place in a city centre gallery with invited members of the public and many of the events and outcomes are recorded photographically as part of the process and filmed to share on social media platforms.
The residency is intended as an itinerant model, allowing creators to split their residency across multiple local artists and studios, thereby expanding the collective learning experience and cultural sharing. This allows space for dialogue, reflection and collaboration, both in the process and the final exposition which exposes that process. The exposition is a means of exploring the making, exposing the thinking of all the artists as you witness their journey through their experience of living and working in a different culture for a period of 4 weeks, making and presenting the final production/ visual art outcome.
The best way of seeing this in action, is to look at the previous examples shown on the @RARO instagram pages for Buenos Aires, Bogotá and Madrid. Their logo is a white R on a black circle – there should be no doubt as to the page, but it can be reached from their web page www.esraro.com
